I am a married mom with four children. I teach piano to students at St. Jacobi Lutheran School and sell jewelry on the side. In my spare time I coach girl’s basketball at my children’s school. I came to HealthWise because I was having terrible headaches and neck pain. I had sought help from a medical physician with no results.

Born and raised in Port Huron, Michigan, "Dr. Bob," as he likes to be called, has deep roots in Chiropractic. His great uncle, grandfather, and father were Doctors of Chiropractic. In fact, his grandfather was the first Doctor of Chiropractic in Port Huron.
After graduating from high school, Dr. Bob went on to receive his Bachelor's degree in Bible and Music from William Tyndale College, with special study at the University of Strasbourg in Strasbourg, France. After only a couple of years out of school, some life-changing experiences motivated him to pursue his degree as a Doctor of Chiropractic.
Dr. Bob graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in October, 1977 and established his practice in November of that same year. In 2006 he celebrated twenty-five years (of his almost thirty years in practice) in his park-side office complex in Hales Corners.
Professionally, Dr. Bob has completed three post-graduate certifications in Sports Injury, Chiropractic Rehabilitation, and Industrial Injury and Ergonomics. He has been chairman of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association's fall convention, a member of the Chiropractic By-laws Committee of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association, District Chairman for the American Chiropractic Association/P.A.C., Chairman of the Worker's Compensation Committee SE district, and a sports injury consultant for both Athletes in Action and Heritage Christian School.
Dr. Bob and his wife, Carol, have four children and in December of 2005 they celebrated the arrival of their first grandchild, Jonah Adam Carpenter. In his hours outside the office Dr. Bob has been very busy. He has found the time to put his first college degree and skills to good use by helping to plant three churches in the greater Milwaukee area. He is a founding member of the Jaycee's in Hales Corners, has served on the Board of Directors of Youth for Christ International, and is currently on the Board of Francophone Ministries for Christ. Dr. Bob has traveled to Burkina Faso numerous times to provide chiropractic health care for the national people, as well as to help build two schools and an 8800 sq. ft. health care dispensary. He is currently working to complete WRED's eighth radio station in Burkina Faso. He was a member and regular soloist for the Hales Corners Community Choir and sang as well with the 2002 international, bronze medal-winning barbershop chorus, The Midwest Vocal Express. He presently leads a home Bible study and he and his wife Carol provide marital counseling to couples with relational concerns. They also conduct marital enhancement seminars throughout the year. What’s a Quiropracter? That’s what I thought! I had never heard of one when I was growing up. Fortunately for my patients and myself I figured it out. It was a sunny summer day in 1995. My brothers, father, uncle, and I headed over to my grandfather’s to remove a tree that had fallen from a strong thunderstorm. As we took turns cutting up chunks of tree, I took it upon myself to demonstrate my Herculean strength. “I can lift it,” I told my brothers. Well, I did in fact lift it, but felt my back tighten up right away. My dad had back problems in the past, so I asked him the name of his “back doctor.” I called Dr. Daniels, and after a couple of treatments, I could feel the tightness easing. Within a few weeks, I had no recollection of back pain. It was then that I decided chiropractic was something I wanted to pursue for a career. I looked at several chiropractic colleges, trying to find the one that fit me best. When all the visits had ended, I decided that Northwestern College of Chiropractic, in Bloomington, Minnesota was my favorite. So in September 1997, I began my studies. It was a very intense program. They tell you that you start slowly, but during my first trimester, I was staring at a class load of 24 credits. It was especially difficult trying to prepare for exams when you have 14 different classes to study for! But by studying at least 3 hours a night following an 8-hour day of classes, I survived this intense program. The faculty took it upon themselves to help the students not only survive, but flourish. Many of my instructors would stay over their lunch hours, to help us with our techniques. I remember Dr. Tom Bergmann placing his hands over mine as I was preparing to adjust the neck of a fellow classmate. It was exhilarating and nerve racking at the same time. Then with a quick twitch, the joint released. I grinned from ear to ear. What an amazing thing had just taken place. I had just made my first adjustment!Over the past 6 years, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of different doctors, observing their techniques and the way they interact with patients. From that experience I have developed my “own” technique. My goal in practice is to change the mindset of my patients. We have been brought up in a medical model of thinking. This means, when you have pain, you take a pain pill…or you have heart burn, you take an anti-acid. I want to teach my patients that by exploring the cause and not just treating the symptom, a greater change will take place. A long-term change that most people are ultimately seeking! Every patient is different, and I approach them that way. If one technique has worked well for them in the past, then I will start with that. Or if a patient has concerns or fears, I want them to know exactly what I will be doing before any treatment would take place. I like working with people of all ages. Chiropractic can help people with arthritis, as well as newborn babies and growing children. I remember while I was in my internship, a 12 year old female patient came to the office. When I observed her posture, I noticed that her right hip was higher than the left hip, her left shoulder was higher than her right shoulder and she had a head tilt to the left. So I began adjusting her spine, starting at the lower back and working up to the neck. When she stood up, I was amazed that her posture had changed. It was now perfectly straight. I knew this profession was something special at that moment. I am a proud father of one amazing little 6-year old boy named Kennedy. He loves playing baseball, bike riding, ice skating and wrestling. I love playing with and teaching Kennedy how to play different sports. Maybe someday, you can watch him play on TV! I make sure that Kennedy is checked and adjusted every month or two in order to keep him healthy. If he has a cold, I adjust him, and give him natural supplements to help boost his immune system. Through this approach, he has had very few health problems. I’m also recently married to a beautiful woman, inside and out, named April. We met while I was working in Crystal Lake, IL. She has since moved up to Wisconsin and now works for a neurologist in Waukesha. We enjoy going on bike rides, taking walks with my dog, Halas, as well as quiet nights inside watching movies with her cat, Jack. Also, I am a huge sports nut. I love watching and playing sports… especially football. Since the age of five I have been a diehard Seattle Seahawks fan. Dr. Bob sometimes calls me a walking sports encyclopedia. Not only do I recommend regular chiropractic treatments, but I also receive them. I get adjusted every week or two, so I can stay my best. I take a daily vitamin as well as Omega 3 oils, and make it a priority to eat a well-balanced diet. I also make sure to exercise, and with a dog that loves being outside, it also gives me the opportunity to walk regularly. Through regular chiropractic care, diet, and exercise, your body can function to its maximum ability and you will feel healthier and happier. Years ago something happened tome that changed my life forever. Let me tell you my story. For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to be a doctor. So immediately after high school, I headed to college as a Pre-Med student. But, during my junior year, my dad was in a terrible car accident. His head was slammed into the roof of his car when he was hit at an intersection. After the accident, his pain was so intense and his neck was so stiff and swollen he couldn’t move it. My dad started seeing a chiropractor for his problem. He got relief and was able to move his neck again. It worked so well for him, and I was so impressed with other “miracles” I saw in his office, that I eventually made a switch and went to Chiropractic College myself.
Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, is where I chose to go. Going to Palmer was a full time job. We started at 7:30 in the morning and went until 4:00 p.m., or later if you had a class that had a lab with it. Then you got to study another three hours that night. Palmer was on the “quarter system,” which consisted of between 18-20 credits in three months time. It was very intense to say the least. Since graduation I have completed over 300 hours of continuing chiropractic education course work on various subjects such as pediatrics, exercise, rehabilitation, and spinal neurology to name just a few.
It’s strange how life is, because now people come to see me after they have been in a car accident. Also they come to me with headaches, migraines, chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder and arm pain, carpal tunnel, backaches, ear infections, asthma, allergies, numbness, athletic injuries, fibromyalgia, along with a host of other conditions. I have treated patients as young as a few days old to ones well into their 80’s. I have helped people who thought there was nothing that could be done and who thought they were going to have surgery. Thank goodness they came in before going “under the knife.”
In the hours outside the office I keep very busy. I work out at least three times a week. Sundays I get together with family for dinner and board games. I play bridge once a month with a group that has been getting together for about 30 years (I’ve only been in the group for about five). Dinner and a movie, or maybe a concert, with friends seems to have become the norm these days, because late nights are out of the question.
My “recipe for health” includes chiropractic adjustments, regular exercise, proper nutrition, and plenty of sleep. I get adjusted at least once a month. My exercise program consists of a combination of machines, free weights and some cardio. Give me protein and vegetables and I’m a happy guy, but I do also take a multiple vitamin and some fatty acid to make sure I get the proper amount of nutrients my body needs.
